November Update
November 8th, 2009Happy November everyone! Here’s your band update for this very warm fall month:
Shop N’ Save and Sinclair Gift Cards
We continue to utilize this fundraiser. It’s easy, doesn’t cost you a cent and really benefits the band. If you’re curious, this is how it works. Every time you shop at Sinclair’s or Shop N’ Save with our gift cards/certificates, the stores award us 4-5% of your purchase. That’s $1 for every $5 you spend! The cards/certificates don’t cost you anything extra and it goes along way towards helping us make special purchases that don’t fit into our curricular budget!
If you need them, see, call or email me or Mr. Kandinsky and we’ll get them to you ASAP. PLEASE UTLIZE THIS GREAT FUNDRAISER!!!
Variety Show this week, November 12 and 13, Thursday and Friday
Tickets are on sale for our annual Variety Show. They’re $5 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. We’ve got a great show lined up this year with some interesting faculty acts, the Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Show Choir and Jazz Band, as well as several solo acts, duets and bands! It’s a show not to miss! Get your tickets today.
Snackin’ With Santa Tickets Available
It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is just around the corner and our annual fundraiser is kicking into gear. Snackin’ With Santa will be held at the high school on December 5th, the day before our holiday concert. Worker sign ups will be posted soon. If you’re interested in working, let me know, you’re time will go toward your students trip fund.
Veteran’s Day Parade/Marching Band Pictures
Our Veterans Day parade is this Wed, the 11th. Call time is 8:30 at the elks. Dress is full uniform (hopefully the last time anyone will ever have to wear them). Afterwards, all students will need to get to the high school gym for our marching band pictures. Individual shots are available for those who want them. Pictures should be done by 10:30am. Uniforms will be turned in afterwards. I’d like a few parents to volunteer to help collect them, if you’re interested contact me ASAP. Thanks
Totals for DC trip money are always available, just ask
Pizza Fundraiser begins next Tuesday, November 17!
Uniform Drive Update
As of last week, we have reached our $30,000 goal in raising pledges. That money is coming and we hope to raise another $10,000 through normal fundraising, contacting alums and utilizing the school board. Our current $30k will outfit every member of the band with new uniforms by next fall! The additional $10 will outfit the percussionist as well as give us room for growth in the future! A special thanks and big hand to Paul Hardin, Chris Bear and Randy Newberry for accomplish so much with our pledge drive. Our community support has been incredible!
As Always, any questions or concerns can be sent my way!
recycling day!
October 23rd, 2009Our next recycling day is Saturday, October 31st, from 9-noon at the Shop N’ Save Parking Lot.
Update!
October 15th, 2009Hello,
Fall is here in full force (and Winter is banging down the door). Time to get bundled up and ready for the holiday season!
First we’ve got to wrap up the marching season.
Chili Supper: Our annual supper was a great success. Thanks to all the parents who helped out and patrons who enjoyed some great food! Between tickets and donations, we took in a little under $3,000. After expenses our profit was $2,185. Of that, $1,213 goes towards student trips, leaving $972 for the band program!
Game, Oct. 16: Typical Friday night game, full uniform. DRESS WARM. I’ve heard rumors of snow. Drummers need to load AND unload the trailer before and after the game.
Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo and Show Choir at Pere Marquette Fall Colors, Sunday, October 18, 1pm: We’ll be performing inside the lodge from 1-3pm on Sunday. Come out and see three of our co-curricular groups in action!
Senior Night, Oct. 23: Senior Parents! Mark your calendars. Band seniors and their parent’s will be recognized before the game on the 23rd. You’ll be receiving a letter in the mail shortly with details. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me, or call Deanna at the high school office.
NEW WEBSITE… again! We’ve updated the website on final time. Check it out! www.jchsbands.com
DC Trip: You can always be contributing the final cost of your child’s trip. A letter will be going out shortly with all the payment due dates.
Booster Meeting: Monday, Oct 26, 7pm, band room. We’ll be discussing the uniform drive, Snackin with Santa and other upcoming events.
Uniform Drive: It’s off with a bang. As of my last check, we’ve raised over $20,000 in pledges. I’m still ironing out the final cost of the whole package. As you can imagine, buying 165 new uniforms is not cheep.
That’s it for now. As always, questions are welcome.
